National Champions!

Team Kuala Lumpur had great success at the Malaysian National Championships held in Butterworth, Penang on the 30th and 31st December 2017. The team travelled up from KL to Penang on the Friday where all the competitors successfully made the weigh in.

On the Saturday was the individual pattern and sparring events. Many fighters made it to the quarter finals but were not able to get medals but Dinesh Jaganathan gave powerful performances to win the Gold medal in patterns and silver medal in sparring. Elyn Hee followed suit and won a Silver in patterns and Gold in sparring.

On returning to the hotel the team were a little down due to the low number of medals - Master Tan and the coaching team had some strong words in the team meeting and next day it must have worked as they came out fighting. The ladies team won the team pattern event and mens team won the team sparring event. The success was crowned by Dinesh winning the overall male champion trophy.

It was a great success, Team KL was one of the smallest contingent (if not the smallest), taking only 10 fighters whilst other states took more than 20! Yet KL finished 4th overall!!! A fantastic achievement.

Many thanks to Master Tan for his guidance and to the team managers, coaches and supporters.
